Biography

Manoelito Martins: Brazilian acoustic guitarist, born in Cubatão, Brazil. He started studying the acoustic guitar at the age of 9 in the Cubatão Municipal Conservatory with professor Carlos Oliveira. After a few years he started participating in some concerts in the cities of Santos (teatro municipal, pinacoteca, sesc, concha acustica, jornal da tv tribuna, tv show bem viver), São Paulo (puroes dos violoes Ronoel Simoes, tv cultura), and Bahia (teatro castro alves ). After graduating in the Cubatão Conservatory, he started attending the classes of acoustic guitarist Geraldo Ribeiro in the  Dr. Carlos de Campos Conservatory in Tatui. He made frequent appearances in local newspapers and tv shows in his community.  He received a scholarship to study in the Campos de Jordão festival with acoustic guitarist Maria Livia São Marcos. Licenced in music through the foundation Lusiada, he started teaching in the Cubatão Municipal Conservatory and in public schools in Santos, Brazil. In 1997, he started other studies in composition, improvisation, and jazz in the Circle of Contemporary Music of São Paulo with professor Ricardo Simões and started mixing in his performances the best of Brazilian music, pop, jazz, and Latin music. In 1999, he moved to the United States, where he started a new phase of opportunities. He was invited to participate as the acoustic guitarist and arranger for the play “Between Pancho Villa and Naked Woman,” directed by Cora Cordona, in the Deep Ellum Center of the Arts in Dallas, Texas, and in the first musical opera and blues “Blind Lemon Prince of Country Blues.”  He was invited to integrate the association of international musicians (united States and Canada) in Texas where he participated in a series of concerts in the community, he also won the prize in 2002 called “National Hispanic Heritage.”  With this he was invited to do interviews with American journalist James Regland in the Dallas Morning News and through the tv shows “Hoy en America.” As a member of the Acoustic Guitar Society of Dallas/Fort Worth, he participated in classes with important international acoustic guitarists like Carlos Barbosa -lima, Sergio e Odair Assad, John Duarte, Manuel Barrueco, Roland Dyens and Roberto Hussell. He graduated in the Southern Methodist University (SMU Meadows School of the Arts) in Dallas, receiving an artist certificate in 2003. He recorded four albums in the United States:  “Impressions” and ”My Brazil Sweet e Low” ‚”Lights & Lively Sounds of Manoelito”  and ”Manoelito By Request” through an independent label. In these albums he interprets the works of garoto, Jobim, Barrios, João Pernambuco, Tarrega, Luiz Bonfa, Mccartney, Baden Powell, Dilermando Reis, Nazareth, Djavan, Luis Gonzaga, and others. Currently he has performed in concerts to an international public in a cruse ship traveling through the Atlantic and Pacific oceans through ”Royal Caribbean International”.
